Hi I am Ane Boa
I was born in 1971 in Denmark and my symptoms started around the year 2000. At least that is what I know now. I was not diagnosed until 2020, but I have known about Dercums Disease since 2019 and knew before the formal diagnose, that this must be what was wrong with me. I have so many of the symptoms – also the really strange ones, like high puls (my max has never been counted, I stopped when I reached 218).
I have been told that in Denmark we are only about 50 – 100 people with Dercums, that is why I am doing this site in English. I hope you will bear with my second language skills.
Dercums-Disease.com
My goal with this website is
- To spread awareness about this disease
- Help research by collecting many personal stories and making them public (please contact me if you would like to contribute)
- Collect knowledge from many angles like lifestyle, medical help, alternative treatments available eg.
- To spread hope to those having this disease
Let’s fight Dercums together!
A new life
To have a rare disease is like having to study a higher education all over while grieving over the loss of a loved one. Life will never be the same again, but I will come out as a new and stronger person. I hope that I can inspire you to do the same.
This website is a chance for me to use my strong sides, while I still get wiser and try to build a new working life (I need to work from home with my computer). I want to give all information for free, but I hope you will understand why I finance my work with ads and affiliates where possible (without influencing the content).
Knowledge is power
For me knowledge is power. It is like taking control of the uncontrollable.
If I know how my body reacts to certain things, then I can avoid or minimize the discomfort. For me accepting that stress is not an option, has made a big difference in my life. Also accepting fatigue as a daily companion has made me happier with myself. I take small breaks and call them “me time” or “spa”. Self-pity will take me nowhere, but I do feel sorry for my loss of energy, and I am sometimes afraid of the future.
I hope you will find the information useful and let me know how you feel in the comments.
Please subscribe to the newsletter, where I will send updates on new posts and knowledge that I gain.
